Everything in nature is made up of the 5 elements of earth, water, fire, air and ether. The water element represent intelligence and wisdom, whilst also symbolising the transitions of birth and death and a more feminine or 'yin' energy. In many ancient cultures, water was considered the centre of life and held a divine energy. From bathing, fishing, travelling and drinking, to worship, mystery and power. In India, the Ganges river is still thought of as holy.
Maitryee Mahatma comes from a region where the Ganges dissolve itself in the bay of Bengal - the Indian Ocean. She is a prominent Kathak dancer and as in all sacred dances of India they are all directly connected & inspired with nature. She will present a dance of water element to worship the rain, the rivers, lakes, the glaciers and our oceans which are so vital for our planet's life. This dance specially choreographed for the International Yoga day will be also a message of reminder to the mankind to apply wisdom and intelligence to save our rivers and oceans. She will be accompanied on Tabla by Nihar Mehta who will interpret on Tabla the ancient sacred rhythmic repertoire to invite and call the Rains.
